Reading Child Coming Home in the Rain from the Store By Hone Tuwhare

LI: To understand poetry can transform everyday life into something meaningful.
Poets use various techniques to make this happen, creating specific feelings and moods for the reader.

For this weeks reading we’ve got challenged to create a Google vid that showcases one of Hone Tuwhare Poems, the one we have chosen was “Rain”.  First we needed to create images using volcabulary to illustrate more images using prompts to connect to the poem. Then we recorded ourselves reading the poem.

Something I enjoyed about this create activity was using my voice to create and share with others.

Tongan Based Word Problems Maths

For Tongan Language Week, our challenge was to create a Google slideshow which we wrote a word problem in, we used items/things from tonga or that is connected to the Tongan culture.
You can find and solve this on the 4th slide.

The answer for mine was

1. How many strips of each size would be needed to create the mat?
Small strips: 300 strips

Medium strips: 120 strips

Large strips: 60 strips

If the family chooses to use only one size of strip, which size would allow them to finish the project within the 150-hour time limit?
Small strips: 262.50 hours (Too long)

Medium strips: 84.00 hours (Can finish)

Large strips: 52.50 hours (Can finish)

Both the medium and large strips would allow the family to finish the mat within the 150-hour time limit.

Which strip size is the most efficient (takes the least amount of time per strip)?
To determine the most efficient strip size, we must calculate the time it takes to weave one meter of each strip:

Small strips: 5.00 minutes per meter

Medium strips: 4.00 minutes per meter

Large strips: 5.00 minutes per meter

Based on these calculations, the medium strip is the most efficient.

Malala Yousafzai

For this task me and my group created a poster about Malala Yousafzai, and how she stood up for womens rights to learn and be educated.
She wanted Women to have equal rights to go to school but as she was on the bus the talibman shot her on the left side of her forehead and had to undergo a lot of surgery and plastic surgery to make her more confident in herself. Time passed and she got back and started making a speech about why women’s should have their rights. She stood tall with pride and justice and people all over the world acknowledge her from this day forward for having bravery and even though that she got shot she still wanted to raise her voice so that other can hear her. I enjoyed this task because I look up to Malala Yousafzai by having the confidence to stand up their in front of the world governments of the United Natioan at 16 years old saying her speech so I really look up to her. Something I found Interesting was that after getting shot she didn’t get silenced by the bullet but spoke with pride. “Empower others with the Weapon of Knowlege” That was her sentence that I acknowledge.
