Reading Child Coming Home in the Rain from the Store By Hone Tuwhare

LI: To understand poetry can transform everyday life into something meaningful.
Poets use various techniques to make this happen, creating specific feelings and moods for the reader.

For this weeks reading we’ve got challenged to create a Google vid that showcases one of Hone Tuwhare Poems, the one we have chosen was “Rain”.  First we needed to create images using volcabulary to illustrate more images using prompts to connect to the poem. Then we recorded ourselves reading the poem.

Something I enjoyed about this create activity was using my voice to create and share with others.

Malala Yousafzai

For this task me and my group created a poster about Malala Yousafzai, and how she stood up for womens rights to learn and be educated.
She wanted Women to have equal rights to go to school but as she was on the bus the talibman shot her on the left side of her forehead and had to undergo a lot of surgery and plastic surgery to make her more confident in herself. Time passed and she got back and started making a speech about why women’s should have their rights. She stood tall with pride and justice and people all over the world acknowledge her from this day forward for having bravery and even though that she got shot she still wanted to raise her voice so that other can hear her. I enjoyed this task because I look up to Malala Yousafzai by having the confidence to stand up their in front of the world governments of the United Natioan at 16 years old saying her speech so I really look up to her. Something I found Interesting was that after getting shot she didn’t get silenced by the bullet but spoke with pride. “Empower others with the Weapon of Knowlege” That was her sentence that I acknowledge.

Our Opinions about matariki

LI: To form and justify an opinion

We explored what a provocation is and why it is important to have an informed opinion when sharing our perspectives. Our provocation was ‘Should Matariki be a public holiday?’
In our opinion we said that matariki should be a holiday because if other countries can celebrate a national day why can’t New Zealanders.

I found this task interesting because we had to trie back up our uninformed information with informed information

Tragedy At Tangiwai

For reading we have been reading a book called tragedy at tangiwai, this book tells a lot of details of the events that took place in tangiwai, this book was enjoyable to read because I could find out more information of the things happening in my country. At 10:21 pm on Christmas Eve 1953 the Wellington Auckland night express plunged into the flooded Whangaehu River at Tangiwai, 10km west of Waiōuru in the central North Island. We have made a google video to tell you some facts about the Tragedy At Tangiwai.

Volcano Animation

This term we’ve been learning about Volcanoes for the past two weeks, we have been creating volcano animations it is about how the cycle moves e.g the tectonic plates. clashing and colliding and to show how the volcano erupts. I enjoyed this task as we made a animation of the things we have been learning about.

Diary WW1 I Writers War

LI: To retell an event in history through the fictional eyes of someone who was there

For the past 2 weeks we have been learning about WW1 history and how it happened. During the time we’ve been learning about it I’ve learnt how that it was about trenche wars and I have been looking at the events that took place at ANZAC during WW1. Many of our NZ soldiers were wounded or killed in action. I looked at videos of life in the trenches,  and read about Hami Graces diary. I used Google ids to record my diary entries. I enjoyed using this as it allowed me to voice over diarys. Something I found interesting about this was that 8,700  Australian and 2,779 New Zealand soldiers were killed at Gallipoli during the First World War.

Something I found interesting about this task was using Google video’s and understanding how to use it.

Time Traveller’s Podcast ft Samuel Marsden

For Literacy we have been using our Inquiry knowledge to help us write questions that we might have asked Reverend Samuel Marsden had we had the chance to meet him and talk to him. This was a fun activity because we took on the roles of Samuel Marsden and the Time Traveller’s Podcast team. It was like we experienced actually meeting him.

We learned that when you are recording a podcast expression is everything! It makes what we have to say more engaging.

The Kuaka/Bar-tailed godwit

LI: To create an infographic that tells others about the migration of the kuaka

For this weeks reading we were learning about the kuaka bird. We made a DLO to express our learning though our blogs.

Something interesting I found out about the Kuaka was that the kuaka Bird preserves energy by standing on one leg.
