For this challenge we’ve created a procedural text on how to create a paper brachiosaurus.

LI: To form and justify an opinion
We explored what a provocation is and why it is important to have an informed opinion when sharing our perspectives. Our provocation was ‘Should Matariki be a public holiday?’
In our opinion we said that matariki should be a holiday because if other countries can celebrate a national day why can’t New Zealanders.
I found this task interesting because we had to trie back up our uninformed information with informed information
LI: To write a multi verse cinquain poem that describes the journey of a sleeping maunga that erupts
We have been exploring cinquain poems. A conquain poem. A cinquain poem has 5 lines. Each line has a different purpose. Line 1 is a noun which is a name. Line 2 has 2 adjectives taht describe the noun. Line 3 has 3 verbs that end in ‘ing’ and describe the actions. Line 4 is a noun phrase which is a group of words (not a sentence) that go together to describe the noun. Line 5 is a synonym which is a word with a similar meaning to the noun.
We used our poem to show our understanding of volcanoes.
Something I found interesting about this was using our vocabulary to make a interesting cinquain poem with different verses to make appealing.
Once upon a time beyond the seven seas, there was a place called the “Long White Cloud” . It was a place where trees were young and mountains aged and warriors were merged. Amongst that place there was a massive fiery giant, bad tempered, always a way to bubble in anger. When she was dozing to sleep she was interrupted and woken up from her slumber. Fury expressed as the thick ashes filled the skies.
During the time Maungrei was dozing to sleep, then was awoken. Maungrei rumbled in anger, her emotions were taken over by inflamed rage. As her wrath took over her emotions, other mountains scrambled in fear before mayhem was
unleashed. After she exploded in fury, nobody was there to experience it. She felt guilty for her actions, she was abandoned.
Maungrei was running out of lava as her volatile volcanic heart bubbles down to the bottom. She noticed she was lonely and regretted her actions. Whilst she was calming down, thick ashes faded away and volcanoes started to creep back, but not too close as she might erupt again. Maungarei decides to fall back into her emotionless state because of her depression being by herself, alone and feared. As she falls into her slumber her oldest sibling helps her relax so she isn’t dreadful and so the world will be normal and calm again. After her older sibling helped her calm down she became quiet and dormant for the greater good. Now she stands tall and vigilant.
Peace was awakened into the world, skies never looking more blue. As Maungarei stands quietly tall and vigilant. The people no longer live in fear, buildings start to come into the picture, trees are more green. Everything is modern and no longer destroyed. Now people visit Maungarei and build walk paths and roads. In the meantime stories are told about the fiery giant, Maungarei.
The volcanoes all around New Zealand have become watchful guardians for the people of the Long White Cloud. They are very quiet but can still roar.

For Literacy we have been using our Inquiry knowledge to help us write questions that we might have asked Reverend Samuel Marsden had we had the chance to meet him and talk to him. This was a fun activity because we took on the roles of Samuel Marsden and the Time Traveller’s Podcast team. It was like we experienced actually meeting him.
We learned that when you are recording a podcast expression is everything! It makes what we have to say more engaging.
