Time Traveller’s Podcast ft Samuel Marsden

For Literacy we have been using our Inquiry knowledge to help us write questions that we might have asked Reverend Samuel Marsden had we had the chance to meet him and talk to him. This was a fun activity because we took on the roles of Samuel Marsden and the Time Traveller’s Podcast team. It was like we experienced actually meeting him.

We learned that when you are recording a podcast expression is everything! It makes what we have to say more engaging.

Mapping the Migratory Flight of the Kuaka

LI: To use Google My Maps to show the migratory flight path of the Kuaka.

For this task we learnt about the Kuaka bird and where it travels daily around New Zealand. I used google maps to create this migration map. What helped me during this task is my group and I collaborated during this task and we helped each other out. A main question we have is why do they migrate? They migrate for the season because when it starts to get cold in New Zealand they go to Alaska and then it goes the same way when it starts to get cold in Alaska. They have one refuel during their migration and it’s between Japan and the Chinese coast. An interesting fact about the Kuaka bird is that they fly up to 12,000 kilometers from Alaska to New Zealand.

Dot to Dot Connections: The Kuaka

LI: To draw the lines between the words to show how the connections you have made.

The kuaka bird

Recently we have been learning about the Kuaka or the Bar Tailed Godwit and they’re long migration. For this task we were creating an infographic about the Kuaka bird. While doing this task and learning about this amazing Bird I found out that they stand on one leg to preserve energy. To me that’s really interesting because not all birds can stand on one leg like they can as well as travelling that far and only having one refuel stop. From this Google draw I can see that I gained more knowledge than I knew before about this bird.

The Kuaka/Bar-tailed godwit

LI: To create an infographic that tells others about the migration of the kuaka

For this weeks reading we were learning about the kuaka bird. We made a DLO to express our learning though our blogs.

Something interesting I found out about the Kuaka was that the kuaka Bird preserves energy by standing on one leg.

The Kokako Bird

LI: To use our smart searching skills

Our Year 7/8 camp was at Kokako Lodge in Hunua. Our challenge today was to use our smart searching skills to find out about the kokako bird and create an infographic to share the facts we researched in our own words.

Something I found interesting about the kokako bird was it is endangered and is spreaded around New Zealand.

Kauri Dieback

LI: To understand what Kauri dieback is and how it spreads

Our challenge today was to use the links provided and our own smart searching skills to find out what Kauri dieback is and what we need to do to try and prevent this from spreading. We need to know about this so that we do our part to keep our Kauri safe when we go on hike at camp.

I worked with my group to find out what is kauri Dieback and how can it affect the kauri trees. We found it interesting that the kauri dieback diease can spread from a 50 meters distance.

Who was Samuel Marsden

LI: To use our smart searching skills to find out who Samuel Marsden was and what he is known for.

We used our smart searching skills to research facts about Samuel Marsden. To make sure our facts were correct we used three different websites.Something interesting I found out about Samuel marsden was that Samuel Marsden was brought christianilty to NZ and did his first mission as a missionary here.

What did Samuel Marsden see?

LI: To use the information in the diary extract to create an image of what we think Samuel Marsden saw when he sailed down the Tamaki awa.

We used Adobe Express to make this picture using ai. We wanted to genarate a image about what Samuel Marsden Saw.We included the details from when Samuel Marsden came to New Zealand. We learnt how to genarate a AI image using a image from Google.
