Tongan Based Word Problems Maths

For Tongan Language Week, our challenge was to create a Google slideshow which we wrote a word problem in, we used items/things from tonga or that is connected to the Tongan culture.
You can find and solve this on the 4th slide.

The answer for mine was

1. How many strips of each size would be needed to create the mat?
Small strips: 300 strips

Medium strips: 120 strips

Large strips: 60 strips

If the family chooses to use only one size of strip, which size would allow them to finish the project within the 150-hour time limit?
Small strips: 262.50 hours (Too long)

Medium strips: 84.00 hours (Can finish)

Large strips: 52.50 hours (Can finish)

Both the medium and large strips would allow the family to finish the mat within the 150-hour time limit.

Which strip size is the most efficient (takes the least amount of time per strip)?
To determine the most efficient strip size, we must calculate the time it takes to weave one meter of each strip:

Small strips: 5.00 minutes per meter

Medium strips: 4.00 minutes per meter

Large strips: 5.00 minutes per meter

Based on these calculations, the medium strip is the most efficient.

Malala Yousafzai

For this task me and my group created a poster about Malala Yousafzai, and how she stood up for womens rights to learn and be educated.
She wanted Women to have equal rights to go to school but as she was on the bus the talibman shot her on the left side of her forehead and had to undergo a lot of surgery and plastic surgery to make her more confident in herself. Time passed and she got back and started making a speech about why women’s should have their rights. She stood tall with pride and justice and people all over the world acknowledge her from this day forward for having bravery and even though that she got shot she still wanted to raise her voice so that other can hear her. I enjoyed this task because I look up to Malala Yousafzai by having the confidence to stand up their in front of the world governments of the United Natioan at 16 years old saying her speech so I really look up to her. Something I found Interesting was that after getting shot she didn’t get silenced by the bullet but spoke with pride. “Empower others with the Weapon of Knowlege” That was her sentence that I acknowledge.

AI Movie

LI: To use our knowledge about dinosaurs in creative ways

We were given 2 create challenges to help us show our learning in creative and fun ways.

I enjoy these challenges because it helps me be more creative and helps me learn more stuff about AI and how it works.

Comic Strip- Once A Panther

LI: To identify the key historical context and events related to the Polynesian Panthers and the Dawn Raids as depicted in the graphic novel.

Our class read the text Once a Panther and asked to create a comic strip that depicts a scene related to the ideas of prejudice, justice, or taking a stand in today’s world using thought bubbles or dialogue that explains the image.

Something I found challenging in this task was selecting a scene that described the dawn raids the best.

Paired Research Challenge

LI: to research questions about your dinosaur including their habitat, diet, predators, and protection.

Our challenge was to create a DLO that tells others about the dinosaur we found when we excavated our dinosaur eggs.
My partner and I found the skeleton of a Brachiosaurus. Did you know that that brachiosaurus as the same life span as a human being which is a hundred years.

Dinosaur egg

  • LI: To understand how scientists discover, record and learn from fossils.

Our challenge was to become a palaeontologist who uncovered a rare dinosaur egg fossil. We used Adobe Express to reimagine what a real find might look like. After a quick research challenge about habitat we used that information to create our image.
My partner and I found the skeleton of a Triceratops. Did you know that triceratops are herbivores and that they feast on plants like ferns, cycas and palm leaves.

Something I enjoyed about this create activity was that We could use our imagination on Adobe Express to explore the AI (artificial intelligence) world and making it into reality inside a picture.

Shameful stain on NZ history-Provacation

LI: To evaluate (form an opinion) the text and respond to the provocation

For this weeks reading task we made a DLO about a provacation, we gave a question to answer and looked at both sides of it, we checked which one we thought  had a better reason to the question, the question was “Should the government have apologised for the dawn raids that happened yesterday (1970s) ?”

We thought yes because the people that felt hurt to this and the family’s broken in this event still needed a apology otherwise the hatred for the government would still be there.

We still checked the other answers for no and the reason behind it, overall  we thought yes was the reasonable answer.

This task was fun and I liked how I could tell my own opininons.

Fossil types

LI: To understand how scientists know so much about dinosaurs.

Our challenge was to create a Google Draw that shows clearly labelled examples of each fossil type, and tells us more about the body type fossils and the trace type fossils. Something I found interesting was that body fossils are very rare as the soft bones are really delicate and for trace fossils their are many different types of trace fossils such as footprints, burrows, trail and even fossilized feces (coprolites).

I enjoyed this task as we got to learn more about the other fossil types such as the two: body fossils and trace fossils.
